# Beijing Forum Webinar Series——The Chinese History Studies in Digital Context

数字人文是数字化智能化的信息环境下人文学科的学术增长点,它为人文学科的发展提供了新方法、新范式,注入新活力。在北京论坛的支持下,北京大学数字人文研究中心(筹)联合北京大学人文社会科学研究院、北京大学历史学系将于 2020 年 6 月 6 日举办一场国际汉学云端论坛。论坛邀请了北京大学邓小南教授、哈佛大学包弼德教授(Peter K. Bol)、德国马克斯-普朗克研究所薛凤教授(Dagmar Schäfer)、荷兰莱顿大学魏希德教授(Hilde De Weerdt)、台湾中研院历史语言研究所陈熙远教授等五位在中国历史研究领域卓有建树的学者大家,以“数字人文视角下的中国历史研究”为题,网络在线研讨并向全球直播。

Digital Humanities is a rapidly growing academic area in today’s digital and intelligent information environment, which is bringing new methods, new paradigms and new incentives into humanities studies and research. Sponsored by the Beijing Forum, the Digital Humanities Research Center of Peking University is organizing an international webinar on Jun 6th, 2020, titled as "the Chinese History Studies in Digital Context", in collaboration with the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Peking University, and the Department of History of Peking University. Five renowned scholars in the field of Chinese history studies are going to present in the webinar, including Professor Xiaonan Deng of Peking University, Professor Peter K. Bol of Harvard University, Professor Dagmar Schäfer of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Germany, Professor Hilde De Weerdt of Leiden University in Netherlands, and Professor Hsi-yuan Chen of the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica in Taiwan. The webinar will live broadcast on the Internet.

研讨话题涉及:数字人文方法如何推动历史学研究、传统史学的格局将发生哪些变化、中国史研究者如何充分利用信息技术工具、数字人文方法需要突破的瓶颈等前沿学术问题。

北京大学数字人文研究中心(筹)本学期举办了“北京大学数字人文工作坊”,邀请国内外学者组成联合授课团队,教授常用的数字人文方法和工具,培养运用计算方法解决人文研究问题的意识和能力。工作坊吸引了国内百所高校和科研机构的近四百名学员参加,在中国高校引起了广泛的回响,为举办本次云端国际论坛准备了条件。

A series of frontier issues will be covered in the webinar, including the digital humanities trends in historical studies, potential changes in the historiography paradigm, digital methods in Chinese history studies, and challenges of the Digital Humanities needs to address.

In the spring semester of 2020 year, the Digital Humanities Research Center of Peking University organized the Digital Humanities Workshop Series, inviting scholars from Peking University, National Taiwan University, and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science to teach digital humanities methods and tools and cultivate students’ computation abilities in humanities studies. The workshops have attracted nearly 400 participants from more than 100 universities and research institutes in the country and abroad.

以下是参加研讨的五位学者的简要介绍:

Introduction to the five keynote speakers are as follows:

denxiaonan

邓小南, 北京大学人文社会科学研究院院长、博雅讲席教授、中国古代史研究中心教授、“中国古代政治与文化”国家级精品课主讲人、国家高等教育名师。主要研究领域有宋史、古代官僚制度史、唐宋妇女史等,曾赴哈佛大学、耶鲁大学、早稻田大学、牛津大学等海外高校授课或合作研究,长期支持北京大学数字人文的发展。著作有《祖宗之法:北宋前期政治述略》、《宋代历史探求》等百余篇学术论著。

Xiaonan Deng, Director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Peking University, Professor of the Centre for Research on Ancient Chinese History, Peking University; Vice President of the Association of Chinese Historians. Her research mainly focuses on history of Song Dynasty, ancient Chinese bureaucratic systems and women’s history in the Tang and Song Dynasties with more than 100 related books and articles published. Professor Deng has given lectures and conducted collaborative researches at leading universities including Harvard University, Yale University, Waseda University, and Oxford University. She has been devoted to supporting the development of Digital Humanities at Peking University.

包弼德, 国际著名中国历史研究学者,哈佛大学东亚语言与文明系讲座教授,曾任哈佛副教务长和哈佛慕课平台负责人。他是哈佛大学中国历史公开课 (ChinaX) 与数字人文导论公开课的主讲人,中国历史地理信息系统项目 (CHGIS) 和中国历代人物传记资料库项目 (CBDB) 的负责人。包弼德教授主要研究方向有:中国唐宋元明思想史研究,中国文化精英历史研究,数字人文网络基础设施建设等。出版了大量中文、日文和英文的学术著作与研究论文。

Peter K. Bol, the Charles H. Carswell Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University, and Vice Provost of Harvard University responsible for HarvardX (2013-2018). He lectures on ChinaX, a world popular MOOC course about China history. He directs the China Historical Geographic Information Systems (CHGIS) project, and the China Biographical Database (CBDB) project. He has published widely in Chinese, Japanese, and English on the history of China’s cultural elites from the 7th to the 17th centuries and the application of geographic analysis in teaching and research.

薛鳳, 德国柏林马克斯•普朗克科学史研究所所长,柏林工业大学科学技术史教授。主要致力于中国古代科学技术史的研究,刚刚荣获 2020 年度德国最高学术荣誉——莱布尼茨奖。主持有关中国地方志的数据库研究项目,推出了数字人文研究工具 LoGarRT。著作有《工开万物 :17 世纪中国的知识与技术》等。

Dagmar Schäfer, Executive Director at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Honorary Professor in History of Technology at Technical University, Berlin. Her interests is the history and sociology of technology of China. Her monograph The Crafting of the 10,000 Things won the History of Science Society: Pfizer Award in 2012 and the Association for Asian Studies: Joseph Levenson Prize (Pre-1900) in 2013. Dagmar Schäfer was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2020—the most prestigious research award in Germany, it is given to “exceptional scientists and academics for their outstanding achievements in the field of research.”

魏希德, 比利时汉学家,现任职荷兰莱顿大学区域研究所中国史教授。主要致力于中国政治与社会网络、中国科举制度思想史、宋史等的研究。主持开发了 Markus 古籍半自动标记平台,在 2016 年的世界数字人文大会上赢得“最佳数字人文工具”奖。著作有《义旨之争:南宋科举规范之折冲》、《中国古代帝国中的公民身份研究》等。

Hilde De Weerdt, Belgian sinologist, Professor of Chinese History at Leiden University. She works on imperial Chinese intellectual and political history, focusing on the question of how elite networks shaped Chinese politics. In recent years Professor De Weerdt has been engaged in the creation of digital tools MARKUS (Best DH Tool or Suite of Tools at the Digital Humanities Awards 2016) and the teaching of digital methods. She directs two collective longitudinal research projects on the history of political participation and the construction of city walls. Her latest book examines the formation of a new information regime in imperial Chinese history.

陈熙远, 美国哈佛大学历史与东亚语文联合学程博士,现为台湾中研院历史语言研究所研究员,中研院数字文化中心召集人。研究专长为明清史,近代中西文化交流中的宗教概念变迁、国家权力与民间信仰、历史书写与政权转移、以及明清以来的日常生活与礼法秩序、明清档案研究等。

Hsi-yuan Chen, Professor Chen obtained his Ph.D. from Harvard University. Currently, he is a research fellow at the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica, as well as the director of the Center for Digital Cultures, Academia Sinica. He studies the history of Ming and Qing Dynasties, with an expertise in the changes of religious concepts, state power and folk beliefs, historical writing and transition of political power, daily life and ritual order, and archival research on Ming and Qing Dynasties.
